DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT
Server Based Networking.
Currently Katende, Ssempebwa & Company has upgraded to server-based networking system of all our computers. This Firm insists that all its personnel are computer literate and every advocate, paralegal and law clerk have access to a computer at his desk.
The Firm has designed its own tailor-made file management and document retrieval system, the first of its kind in Uganda. This has greatly improved the storage, security and cataloguing of our files and ensured easy accessibility of files to all Firm personnel. The sharing and editing of work by project teams has been improved. The Firm is in the advanced stages of cataloguing its own precedents and standard form documents for our network based database.
On-line Research database.
The Firm is in the process of setting up a fully computerized internal electronic library with its own search engine. This library will catalogue cases, statutes and local legislation from Uganda availing our staff with research facilities akin to lexis-nexis but covering local legislation. This pioneering effort will revolutionalize the way legal research is carried out in this jurisdiction and the standard of legal services our clients will receive.
The library will also boast of an extensive and continuously updated directory of internet links to countless sources of the most recent foreign legislation, cases, articles, journals and legal resources generally. The Firm's technology department is in the process of lining up these legal and business related websites to be linked to our internal electronic library.
With the advent of these legal research innovations our lawyers are in a better position to provide cutting edge legal services and we can now circumvent the communication shackles that had hitherto slightly hindered the quality of our research. Intelligent use of technology has levelled the legal playing field and our clients can now receive unparalleled legal services at international standards because the Firm has nearly the same research facilities as many international firms.
