    Patrick is a Senior Associate at KATS. He received his LL.B with Honours from Uganda Christian University in 2015, where he was the Secretary General of the ‘Integrity in the Law Journal’. He completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in 2016 and joined the Firm soon thereafter.

    He has over 8 years’ experience and his practice primarily covers Employment Law, Competition Law, Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution, Data Protection and Privacy Law, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Law, Fintech Regulatory and Advisory Law, Insolvency Law, Capital Markets, Corporate & Commercial Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Constitutional Litigation and Tax & Compliance.

    Patrick is one of the firm’s focal people with respect to the Google Sub Saharan Africa Legal Services Hub that advises Google on all its legal, regulatory and other obligations in Uganda.

    Patrick’s recent experience includes leading the team that advised Copia Uganda Limited a B2C multinational e-commerce company on its exit from Uganda which entailed the discharge of over 400 employees and contractors, the discharge of all contracts and other obligations and placing the company in a state of corporate legal dormancy and tax de-registration.

    Patrick was a member of the team that advised Airtel Uganda Limited (a member of the Bharti Airtel Group) on all aspects of its USD 1 Billion dollar listing on the Uganda Securities Exchange and the offering of a 20% stake to the public through its Initial Public Offering.

    Patrick is a focal person in the Firm’s Employment, Corporate & Commercial, Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolutions departments and routinely advises several large firms in Uganda on their employment obligations. He also has represented various businesses before the Industrial Court and appellate courts in their quest to obtain labour justice.

    Patrick advises and represents various large financial institutions, regional development banks, multinationals, and high net worth individuals in the various courts of Uganda.

    Patrick is currently a member of the Uganda Law Society’s Constitutional and Fundamental rights litigation group, currently litigating a freedom of expression matter against the state in the Constitutional Court of Uganda.

    • Successfully represented a Regional Development Bank in a UGX 10 Billion mortgage dispute before the Court of Appeal.
    • Successfully represented a claimant before the Industrial Court in a labour dispute, where she was awarded UGX 1.5 Billion in compensation for unfair dismissal, one of the largest awards in the country.
    • Part of the team that represented Airtel Uganda Limited, a leading multinational telecommunications company in a frivolous matter: Ivan Samuelsburg Ssebadduka vs. Warid Uganda Limited (Airtel Uganda) dismissed on a preliminary objection.
    • Part of the team that represented a mortgagor against a financial institution (mortgagee) in the High Court of Uganda, with the result that the Court postponed a forced eviction and sale of property, with the ultimate result a renegotiation of the unjust terms of the mortgage.
    • Part of the team that represented a client who had a commercial dispute against a financial institution in a matter in the Commercial Division of the High Court of Uganda.
    • Part of the team that represented a civil servant in a groundbreaking administrative law action against the Government of Uganda.
    • Advised the first MVNO Telecommunications operator in Uganda on various regulatory, corporate and litigation related matters.
    • Advises various telecommunications industry operators and value added services providers on their legal and regulatory oblgiations.
    • Regularly advises various clients on Immigration procedures.
    • Advised a Goldman Sachs affiliate, on its investment in a Ugandan telecommunications value-added services provider.
    • Part of the team that advised a leading Japanese financier, Mitsui Corporation in its investment in a leading regional solar power solutions provider, M-Kopa.
    • Advised African Development Bank on a proposed equity-debt swap with a Ugandan agri-business firm.
    • Routinely advises the leading indigenous medical and health services conglomerate in Uganda on various issues including but not limited to medical legal matters, regulatory matters.
    • Routinely advises clients on various corporate actions, such as the process of incorporation of a company in Uganda, registration for taxes and trading licenses.
    • Regularly acts as a Company Secretary to various multinational and top Ugandan companies including but not limited to International Medical Group and its subsidiaries, Uganda Breweries Limited.
    • Regularly advises a leading Portuguese based, Ugandan Construction Company on all their corporate matters.
    • Routinely contributes to the annual World Bank ‘Doing Business’ reports relating to setting up business in Uganda.

    • Advised a leading South African sustainable water and other technical solutions company; Talbot and Talbot in the restructuring of its Ugandan human resources in accordance with the Laws of Uganda.
    • Part of the team acting for the Claimant in an employment dispute against a medical research institution leading to one of the largest awards in the Industrial Court.
    • Successfully resolved an employment dispute between Muehlbauer Uganda Limited and two of its former employees.
    • Successfully resolved an employment dispute by 9 former employees against Bayport Financial Services.
    • Routinely advises a leading dairy company on customs and tax matters.
    • Regularly advises the largest HMO/Health insurance company in Uganda on regulatory, taxes and other matters.
    • Successfully represented insurance players such as ICEA General Insurance and Britam Insurance as well as the Uganda Insurers Association in several tax disputes before the Tax Appeals Tribunal
    • Routinely advises the largest technical operation and maintenance services provider in Uganda on its tax obligations in Uganda.
    • Provides criminal prosecution support services to various multinational and top leading Ugandan companies to ensure successful prosecution of persons accused of various offences to the detriment of those companies
    • Advises the largest regional digital payments provider in relation to the provision of cutting age digital online payments, remittances and forex services.
    • Advised BT Payments in its application to obtain a non-brick and mortar payments license, the first of its kind in Uganda.
