    Hasfa is a Principal Associate working in KATS’ Family Law & Estates, Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Real Estate and Company Secretarial practice areas.

    Hasfa’s expertise in Family Law enables her to aid clients navigate the intricacies of legal separation and divorce before Magisterial courts and the High Court of Uganda, particularly in high conflict situations that involve children. She has vast experience in guardianship and adoption matters, preparation of Wills, obtaining Probate, Letters of Administration and Estate related matters.

    Hasfa is a well-rounded litigator whose skill set, honed in 19 years’ active practice, extends beyond Family Law to include land transactions and related disputes, extensive experience in trial advocacy and arbitration in general commercial law.  She provides advisory and litigation services to major domestic corporations in relation to product liability claims, property disputes, breach of contract, termination of employment, and Intellectual Property rights.

    Hasfa also provides company secretarial support services to a number of high-profile clients, inclusive of providing guidance on critical issues of corporate governance and strategic planning.

    For a time, she taught at Kampala International University’s School of Law. In 2016, she obtained a Master of Business Administration from Herriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School in 2016 and is presently, a lecturer at Law Development Centre, Kampala campus.

    Intellectual Property

    • Provides general corporate advisory to the Firm’s corporate clients including: American Tower Company, MasterCard Foundation, Louis Dryfus Company, Viasat Communications, Orion Payment Solutions, Central Broadcasting Services, one of the leading radio stations in Uganda.
    • She is a Board Member at Lubiri High School, Buloba Campus, one of the schools for the Buganda Kingdom and a deputy chairperson of the Academics Human Resource and Disciplinary Committee.
    • Involved in providing Company Secretarial services ranging from incorporation of companies, providing technical assistance to companies on data updates of dormant companies, filing of company statutory forms and carrying out other functions required of a company secretary.
    • Involved in various divorce petitions including the famous Zedokia Karokora vs Kellen Karokora cause, where the KATS’ team defended and had the petition dismissed by Court because the Petitioner did not prove grounds for divorce.
    • Advises clients in Family Law & Estate matters with regards to adoption, divorce, legal guardianship and obtaining letters of administration.
    • She authors articles on Family Law matters such as property sharing and custody of children during divorce proceedings.
    • Acted for a leading provider of private medical services in Uganda, International Medical Group (C-Care) to register approximately 30 trademarks for the company and all its subsidiary companies in Uganda.
    • Involved in conducting due diligence for multinational companies with regard to their Intellectual property and regulations.
    • Involved in providing legal advice to various clients on Intellectual Property related matters including undertaking the registration, renewals and assignments of different forms of Intellectual Property in Uganda.
